To Infinity and Nowhere Else (Tag: Buzz, Dictator)

A simple metal table sat in the middle of the room, shining. On one side were a couple of chairs, black and metal, and just as new as the table. Dictator was in his chair, silently reading up on a file they had made on Buzz. On the other side of the table was a matching chair, intended for the interviewee.

Sic was in their chair next to Dictator, looking on a list to see who was next to be interviewed. The name of the guy was Buzz Lightyear, whoever that was. Sic had never met this guy, so they just lounged in their chair, ready to see this guy and get this over with.

Buzz entered the room quietly, without any fanfare or theatrics. He simply gave the two men--or whatever they were--a small salute, feeling slightly stomach-sick as he did so. "Buzz Lightyear, reporting," he said quietly.

"Ah, hello Mr. Lightyear." Dic said, standing up and holding his hand out for a handshake. He knew much more about this man than some of the others, seeing as he had been such a threat to a certain Evil Emporer.

"Please, take a seat." The Dictator sat back down in his chair. Once Buzz had sat down he started.

"I've heard much about you, so I think that we can make this interview quick." the man said, looking into Buzz's eye's. "But tell me, how long have you been...space ranger, as you call it."

"You have a large chin Buzz. Do you know that?" Sic pointed out boredly. They leaned forward in their chair though, grinning slightly.

"A space Ranger eh? What was your rank? Were you a Captain or something" Sic asked, actually intrigued.

Buzz hesitated for only a nanosecond, then took the hand and shook it, ignoring the spectacular somersault his stomach made as he did so. “Hello.”

It took a lot of composure not to wince. In his own universe, Buzz was incredibly famous for being a hero—here, though, heroes were not wanted, not by the government.

“Twenty years, sir,” Buzz replied, meeting the other man’s gaze steadily. “Not counting two years of training as a cadet.”

“Captain,” Buzz nodded, ignoring the chin bit. Which was true, just not the whole truth. He wasn’t about to tell these people that he was actually Star Command’s junior commander.

"Twenty years? Well then you must be a very experienced man." Dic said with a nod. He mentally face palmed at Sic and his comment about the big chin. One day that big mouth of his was going to cost him something, maybe even a limb.

He turned his attention back to Buzz. "Captain? You have had a lot of experience." he smiled. The man knew there was something the captain was not telling him, but he would bring that up later.

"If you could have any job here, what would it be?" he asked

“Yes, sir,” Buzz said neutrally. He definitely wasn’t going to volunteer any more information than was strictly necessary.

Buzz almost shifted in his seat. “I don’t know, sir,” he said frankly. “I don’t know what positions are open…” He shrugged.

"A Captain? Cool." Sic said casually, taking out a bag of popcorn from their robe and chomping on a few kernels. Mmm, movie theatre butter popcorn, the best. Sic savored the kernels as Buzz and Dic spoke. They paused in their eating to talk, still lounging in their chair nonchalantly.

"Thats stupid Diccy. Asking someone what they wanna do. As the leader, you get to TELL them what to be~ And besides, like he said, he don't know any." Sic said to their Boss and close friend, before turning to Buzz. "How would you like to be to work in the cockpit? This ship is pretty big, so when it comes to flying it around, we need lots of help, so there are quite a lot of jobs available there. What do ya say?"

Buzz raised an eyebrow in an expression very suited to his rank. “I believe the piloting center on a ship of this size is called a bridge,” he said coolly. He was almost enjoying this acting job. “I can pilot, I can astronavigate, and I can work communications.” There were a few more things he could do, too, but he wouldn’t help these despots any more than he had to.

"Yes, I do believe the correct word would be the bridge." Dic agreed with Buzz. It seemed a suitable enough job for someone such as Buzz. Looking through the files once more, he locked eye's with Buzz. "You will be replacing the current captain of the bridge. I think that with you, we may have an easier time navigating to other planets."

Dic smiled, though not much a smile of kindness, more of a smile knowing full well the man wasn't a fan of helping take over planets.

"Cockpit, bridge, whateva. I'm more used to planes then spaceships." Sic grumbled slightly. At least they were done with this guy.

Buzz’s stomach turned upside-down and stayed that way. He had to remember that, the higher-placed he was, the better chance he had to thwart these people. Otherwise, he didn’t know how he could live with himself. “Yes, sir,” he saluted, a bit slowly. “Is there anything I need to know before I start? Manuals I need to read, anything like that?”

"Very good." said Dic. "All the manuals you need are right here." he took out a folder and slid it across the table "Also, you must know that there will be people higher than you. You may be replacing the current captain, but you have to earn the right to have more abilities. You will find out what you can and can't do at the time being in this." he finished, standing up to shake his hand.

"And now I must ask for that blank card you received at the meeting."

“Yes, sir.” Buzz picked up the folder, eyes scanning it even as he absorbed the Dictator’s words. Even in situations like this, Buzz Lightyear was nothing if not intense. He took the requisite card out of his small storage compartment and handed it to Dic.

"Thank you very much." he took the card and paper clipped it to his folder. "You will get this back later. You are now free to go."

“Yes, sir.” Buzz stood, saluted, and turned sharply, leaving the room.
